What Others Say About His Teaching
While serving as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas, I was continually impressed with the outstanding teaching of Gordon Lindsey, one of the church’s elders and Sunday School teachers. His theological education from both Yale University and Oxford University, combined with his deep faith and extensive knowledge of the Scripture, made him one of the best lay teachers I have ever heard. I strongly recommend Gordon for any teaching responsibility that may come his way, whether at the local church, presbytery, synod or General Assembly level.
— William J. Carl, III, Retired President, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary
Gordon Lindsey has taught numerous continuing education events at various churches and presbytery-sponsored events within Grace Presbytery. He has done so with the experience and grace of a seasoned professor. The folks who attend his courses and workshops, to a person, come away thrilled with the information and understanding they gain through Gordon’s insightful and knowledgeable teaching. His intellect and teaching skill are matched only by his stellar ethics and professionalism.
— Julia A. Boyce, Former Director of Educational Support, Grace Presbytery, Dallas, Texas
Gordon’s first class at the church where I serve was so popular we could barely wait to have him teach again. He is a gifted educator who unwraps complex Biblical and spiritual topics in a way that makes them accessible to everyone in the room. He encourages his students to dig deeper and make connections between the material and their lives.
— Cheryl Taylor, Former Director of Christian Education, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Flower Mound, Texas
Gordon Lindsey recently taught a two-part series at University Baptist. He was well prepared, engaging, and he connected well with our people. I look forward to the next time he comes to teach at UBC.
— Tom Leland, Retired Senior Minister, University Baptist Church, Charlottesville, Virginia
Gordon has a special gift of taking theological insights out of the realm of scholastics and delivering them into the hearts and minds of lay persons with words that correlate with their experiences and understandings. The congregation I serve enjoys having him return to teach often.
– Ken Albright, Pastor, Grace and Glory Lutheran Church, Palmyra, Virginia
Your course was fantastic! Your class loved it and want an encore. We would be delighted if you would teach a course again–same or new.
— Marchia Fleming, Program Director, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University of Virginia
Gordon has a superb theological education… and decades of experience in teaching the Bible—as a well-informed lay person and eventually as a parish pastor. In short, he has not only the background and education in understanding the Bible but also the experience in communicating its richness. His work will be invaluable to lay people striving to find a faith that is both sensible to their lives and sensitive to their worlds.
— John Mulder, Former President and Professor of Historical Theology, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky
As always, your presentation at the Senior Center last week was a gem. You have the unusual ability to address a topic not only as a scholar, but as someone who can convey complicated concepts in a way that the lay public is able to comprehend. And you are such a good storyteller! We always leave with a lot to think about.
— Inge Hull, Comparative Religions Study Group, The Senior Center, Charlottesville, Virginia
Gordon delivered his series on the Formation of the Christian Bible lecture for our church. He did a fantastic job of thoroughly presenting information, yet capturing the listener’s attention. He used handouts and PowerPoint presentations with photographs and biblical textual examples to accentuate his points. Gordon just didn’t dispense information but challenged everyone present to think about the historical times surrounding the formation of the scriptures and to wonder at the incredible work of the Holy Spirit during the formation process. I highly recommend him as a teacher!
— Greg Wissinger, Pastor, Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Troy, Virginia
Gordon is a profound lecturer in Bible and spirituality. His knowledge of the scriptures is amazing, and his presentations are clear, articulate, and compelling. I highly recommend him for group leadership.
— Richard Singleton, Priest in Charge, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Columbia, Virginia
Your survey of Genesis was tremendous! So many women came to me later and the next day expressing their appreciation for your presentation.
— Sara Hendricks, Presbyterian Women, Presbytery of the James, Virginia
Gordon Lindsey’s lecture on St. Patrick was one of the most inspiring programs we have had. He is a magnificent speaker. He knows his topic well and captures the Celtic soul.
— Joan Meade DeDitius, Director, Irish American Cultural Institute, Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter
Gordon Lindsey has taught several adult classes at First Presbyterian Church. He is an outstanding teacher. He is always very well prepared and knows his subject. Whether it is a long-term course or a one-time class, Gordon manages to make every session extremely interesting. He is sensitive and responsive to the questions and comments of the group. Whenever he has taught here, people have always asked me when he would be teaching again.
— Carol A. Schneider, Former Director of Christian Education, First Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville, Virginia
Gordon Lindsey is always thoroughly prepared for any topic he teaches. He does not, however, overwhelm people with all he knows. He excites us by letting us know where there are differing points of view and why those differing views exist…in that sense, giving the “story behind the story.” He also values comments and questions from class members, which gets us all involved in the learning process ever so much more.
— Marilyn Wallace, Logos Discussion Class, First Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas
In a series of imaginative and scholarly lectures, Gordon Lindsey opens a window on the rich treasures of Celtic spirituality, one of the roots of British Christianity. The presentations are a soulful journey into the ancient, yet ever fresh, vision of Celtic Christianity.
— John P. Dale, Leader, Celtic Study Group, St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, Dallas, Texas
