Ministry

Born and raised as a pastor’s son, Gordon’s life has revolved around Christian churches since his earliest childhood. Listed below are some of the ways he as an adult has been engaged in and served in churches as well as in wider church endeavors.

2018-Present:  Committee on Adult Ministries, First Presbyterian Church,  Charlottesville, Virginia.

2018-Present:  Augusta Correctional Center, Craigsville, Virginia.  Co-team leader of a weekly contemplative prayer group for inmates of this medium-security prison.

2017-Present:   Committee on Ministry, Presbytery of the James, Presbyterian Church (USA), Richmond, Virginia. 2021: Moderator. 2020: Vice Moderator.

2013:  The Pastor-Theologian Consultation on the Holy Spirit, sponsored by the PC (USA) Office of Theology and Worship. 

2010-2016:  Nominating Committee, Presbytery of the James, Presbyterian Church (USA), Richmond, Virginia. 2013-2016: Moderator.

2007-2014:  Scottville Presbyterian Church, Scottsville, Virginia. Installed Pastor.

2007-Present:  Association of Presbyterian Christian Educators.

2007:  Grace Presbytery, Presbyterian Church (USA), Dallas, Texas.  Ordained on February 25 as Minister of Word and Sacrament

2006-2009:  Presbytery of the James, Presbyterian Church (USA). Staff Associate for Adult Ministry and Education.

2002: Hospital Chaplaincy Training at the Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

1992-2005:  First Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas. Elder, Session. Chair, Adult Education Committee and Associate Pastor Nominating Committee. Adult church school teacher for 13 years. Co-author of the church’s 250-page sesquicentennial church history                   

1996-2002: Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky. Member of the President’s Roundtable (An advisory board)

1976-1992:  Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York, New York. Elder, Session. Adult church school teacher for four years

1975-1979:  The Religious Public Relations Council, New York Chapter
